I would like to make this self-aggrandizing (hehe) link to an article I wrote which came out today in the Business Mirror. It is my personal view on what's in store for 2008.
I said previously that I have something exciting for my blogsite happening real soon, and it will. I hope my readership increases so I can justify to myself that I should pursue this further hehe.
Here's another piece of good news for the country.
I'm happy that the international circuit is starting to take notice of the Philippines once again. Some have this sense of false patriotism and would not want to open up local industries to foreigners. There are definitely good and bad salient points to that, but in the end, the level of domestic money that we have is not enough if we want to fast track economic progress.
A win-win situation for those who still want to protect local "interests" is to boost tourism. And the other, albeit with some resistance from local tribal groups, is to start digging up our very mineral-rich resources that have remained dormant and stagnating beneath our feet for decades upon decades. This article states that there is an estimate of about $1 TRILLION, yes you got that right, not Million, not Billion, but TRILLIONS of zeros folks, worth of mineral reserves scattered across the archipelago.
The only question now is, why isn't there any big name projects yet? I wrote in a different blog that the stock market will be resurgent again some time this year due to the mining renaissance. Let's just hope (and pray) we don't get hobbled by red tape.
